We are changing the minimum buy-in on our cash tables

By admin | March 24, 2010

Effective from April 8th we will change the minimum buy-in of our cash tables to 30 bb on all levels. On levels 0.25/0.50 and lower we will have shallow stack tables, where the minimum buy-in is 20 bb and the maximum buy-in is 50 bb.

The reason for this change in minimum buy-in is to avoid short stack players. It has not been a big problem with short stack players, as we have seen that there are a lot more on other sites, but by making the change now, we will prevent it from becoming a big problem. We also believe that many sites in the industry will follow suit and most sites will do some kind of short stack prevention.

Even though it is not against the rules, the short stack strategy takes away any post flop play, which is also a part of the game and the player leaves the table once he reaches 30 bb or doubles his stack and moves to another table. This is normally not possible in a live poker game and it is also considered unethical by most poker players.

For those who prefer to play with a shorter stack, it will still be possible to play the shallow stack tables on the low levels.
